As part of the UK’s lockdown exit strategy, plans to ease the tight restrictions surrounding weddings brought about due to the Covid-19 outbreak have been announced – meaning you can start thinking about your big day in 2021
As it stands, ceremonies can only take place in exceptional circumstances, but, all being well, this is set to change and the summer is most definitely on!
It’s a pretty complex picture, but weddings and civil partnership ceremonies are currently very restricted, with receptions not allowed in any part of the UK.
In England, they can only take place in exceptional circumstances, for example, if one of the couples is seriously ill and not expected to recover with up to six people able to attend.
As for Scotland, ceremonies can be held with up to five people, including the couple, witnesses and the officiant.
In Wales, licensed visitor attractions and hotels can open to hold wedding ceremonies, with the maximum number of attendees determined by the building’s capacity.
In Northern Ireland, up to 25 people can attend a ceremony, although events with more than 15 people require a risk assessment. Face masks must be worn by guests.
Pretty confusing, right?
However, with the Prime Minister’s recent road map out of lockdown announced in February, this is all about to change and wedding planning in the coming months could now look much more normal.
In England, from March 29th, any single adult can get married, and six people (including the couple) can attend the ceremony
Additionally, from April 12th, up to 15 people will be allowed to attend a wedding and reception. With ceremonies only taking place in places of worship, public buildings and locations that are already permitted to open.
However, from this date, receptions will be permitted as long as they are held OUTDOORS ONLY – ahead of June 21st, when the government aims to remove all limits on social contact, including weddings.
So with outdoor wedding receptions permitted from this spring, not to mention the fact that summer is just around the corner, have you considered an open-air event for your big day?
More couples than ever are opting for an al fresco wedding day and we have a feeling that 2021 will be no exception.
